Whether you are considering going into the Air Force or just want a routine that will challenge you, it is a good idea to look into the workouts used by those in the Air Force. You will probably find that the results are more impressive than what you will get from the gym, as is the feeling of achievement when you finish the routine. Though joining the Air Force is the best way to get the training, there are other sources available.

You can find schools and companies near you that offer training routines when you check out Canada 411 or similar local search engines. This is usually the fastest way to find a range of places offering Air Force training, allowing you to quickly choose a location and get started getting in shape. You can also expect to learn discipline, teamwork and confidence when you choose an Air Force routine. While it will not be easy to complete the training, the outcome is usually worth it, especially since you should be left with both more muscle tone and the knowledge that you can complete any challenges you put your mind to.

Most Air Force training courses cost money, but you can usually get a few tips regarding the routine from fitness magazines and websites. Of course, you will not get the same challenge as if you were to take a course, but if you are already disciplined, you may benefit from learning some of the requirements of the training and then adding them into your own routine.

People, especially the youth, often have a very one sided view of the Air Force. The Air Force isn’t all about flying cool fighter jets, wearing Ray Ban Aviators or sporting leather jackets. Being an Air Force pilot is serious business. It takes a lot of dedication and hard work to get through the rigorous training to get a shot at being a pilot. Not everyone can make it through the strict selection procedure! Here are some tips on how you can make it through the painstaking training to become a proud Air Force Pilot:

  1. Don’t Talk Too Much: While it may seem ‘cool’ to behave like Tom Cruise in Top Gun, being outspoken isn’t the best idea when you are undergoing Air Force training. So listen more, talk less, and you will most likely stay out of trouble.
  2. Do exactly What You Are Told: You should forget about taking short cuts or doing things the easy way when you in training. Being an Air Force pilot is all about discipline. So if you are told to perform a certain task in a particular manner, you need to follow the orders to the dot!
  3. Get Set To Be Tough: Pilots need to be in top physical shape and so you will be going through a very tough fitness regime where you will need to push your body to its limits and beyond. Remember, giving up is never an option so tough up!
  4. Get Ready to Change: By the time you are done with the training, you will barely be the person you once were so be prepared for the change.

Don’t be fooled by the word ‘basic’ in Basic Air Force Training because there is nothing basic about it! Air Force training is tough and needs you to give it your all if you are ever going to get through. Needless to say, joining the Air Force isn’t meant for anyone and everyone and whoever attempts to get in, has to be prepared for the toughest challenges ahead. Here are a few things that will help you make it!

  1. Air Force training is not just given in the field. Believe it or not, you will be spending tremendous amounts of time in a classroom! So be prepared to take lots of notes and study hard as this is crucial if you are going to get through.
  2. Be proud of what you are doing! You will often be told that you are not good enough but that is just your instructor’s way of pushing you harder. Most men who think they are tough crumble during the training so you should be proud of your efforts. It will keep you motivated!
  3. Take practice sessions seriously. You will be asked to role play in situations that may actually happen someday so treat it as something that is happening in real, you will be able to give it your best then.
  4. You will feel like giving several times during the training period. However, you should keep reminding yourself that getting through this eight and a half month training will change your life forever, and for the better too! So stick to it and you won’t regret making the decision when you earn your Airman’s Coin!

Basic Air Force Training Tips

Heading off for the Air Force Training Basics can be a turning point in a person’s life. You know that things will never be the same once you have earned your Airman’s Coin and can proudly proclaim that you are a member of the USAF. You might have even mentally prepared yourself for the hardships you will face during the training and have formed strategies to keep yourself motivated. However, there are certain small, basic things that will make things a tad bit easier for you at camp. Here are some such tips!

  1. Cleanliness is a virtue that is taken very seriously at the Air Force. So learn how to shine your own boots and stay prim all the time.
  2. You will be marching – a lot! So learn and practice the basics of marching before hand to save yourself from unnecessary embarrassment!
  3. You should know whose orders matter the most, so learn the ranks of the military and air force. It will also help if you know how to address people at different rank levels.
  4. You will be strapped for time and can expect to have a very hectic schedule that needs to be adhered to strictly. Being late is never an option. So learn how to do things really fast, like finish a meal or have a shower in 3 minutes!
  5. Forget about getting any semblance of ample sleep. You will be waking very early and will have little time to sleep, so get used to it!
  6. Learn how to control your temper and watch what you say. Making enemies at camp is always a bad idea!

Types Of Armed Forces

Every country has armed forces which help to defend the country against external threats that arises now and then in the form of war or trying to get into an area of the country forbidden to external people or foreigners. The armed forces are trained extensively to defend the nation and to keep the people in the country safe and secure.

The armed forces are mainly of three types, namely the army, navy and air force. Each operates on separate topographies and is trained to defend from different angles. For example, if there is a threat to the country, the army is not the only force which would come to defeat it. There would be defenders from the air force and the navy.

The army consists of the group of people who defend the country from land. These people are trained vigorously to defend the country from external aggressors. They have skills in the artilleries like the AK47, etc and other guns which can be quite powerful and rare. They are the most well known and popular people among the three defenses of the armed forces.

The air force is other armed forces which defends the country from the air. These are the people who risk their lives in the air to defend their country from any threat that arises. The objective of the air force, from a defensive point of view is to conduct aerial warfare when the need arises. It is a form of advanced way to defending the country.

The navy is a force which defends the country through the water bodies. These people are also involved in trade and foreign relations. They are extensively trained to be skilled and efficient when the need arises. The navy is usually forgotten by people as a part of the armed forces but the fact is they are quite important.

Personal Sacrifice Need Of The Hour

Many of us might still remember the history lessons that we studied at school, and how personal sacrifice seemed to be the one dominant theme among the great people whose lives are embedded in history books. Personal sacrifice is indeed an important aspect that has made mankind achieve all the great things whose benefits will be enjoyed by all future generations.

Within our own families, we will find plenty of examples of personal sacrifice by our ancestors, as well as by our friends, and the community at large. An important contribution of personal sacrifice for society is made by the armed forces – the Army, Navy, Air Force, and all the paramilitary and security forces in all countries and regions of the world.

The personal sacrifice made by these personnel is considered among the highest sacrifices ever made or expected of any person. These personnel devote an entire lifetime to ensuring the safety and security interests of their countries. They often stay away from their friends and family for long durations. Their stint could often be in remote areas and in difficult and in extreme weather. The personal sacrifice made by these people makes them really tough and disciplined, since only then they are able to achieve their goals for their entire country.

Many young people in the armed forces are even unable to spend time with their family immediately after marriage. The pleasures of watching their children grow, medical care of parents, etc are tasks that they miss out on, in their duty towards their nation. It is these people who are expected to provide the supreme sacrifice by dying for their country during times of turmoil or wars.

How Long Will we Need an Air Force?

How long will we need the air we breathe? While these questions would at first seem to only be linked in the most abstract, “airy” sense of the word, they are linked very deeply. After all, any weapon which is held by one person ought to be held by others as a force of balance. And when that balance is maintained, life may continue more peaceably than it would if we were under constant threat by the one person holding a particular weapon. In the sense of our Air Force, we need them for our security against a particular set of weapons as much as we need the air we breathe to keep us from suffocating. And rather like the air itself, this need is not likely to go away any time soon.

The Air Force has a weapon in the form of aircraft and the airborne launching platforms which those aircraft can become. Through having aircraft at our military’s disposal, soldiers may be dropped into territory which would be nearly impossible (or at least extremely difficult) to reach through land or ocean based means. As well, missiles and bullets delivered from an airborne vehicle are even more effective than they can be when they are delivered from the ground. In this way, the Air Force is a boon to our ability to defend ourselves nationally.

Now, considering that for the longest time there were no such things as aircraft (the first hot air balloons were only developed in the late 18th century), an air force was not necessary. However, ever since any country has had the capacity to transport combat troops and fire weaponry from the air, every country who desired to defend itself against such a potential attack has had to also have such means at its disposal. And since the United States prides itself on having a powerful military, defending itself from the air is a need, and will continue to be.

A Brief History of the Air Force

Early Beginnings

The United States Air Force originally began as the aeronautical division of the U.S. Army Signal Corps in 1907. After trials with balloons and alternative forms of air flight, the Wright brothers sold the signal corps their flying invention –the airplane, in 1909. Capt. Benjamin Foulois headed the first section of men that conducted experimental flights and in December 1913 the unit known as the 1st Aero Squadron. In 1918 this division was renamed the Army Air Service, at this point there were over 19,000 officers and 178,000 men that were included in the Air service, with over 11,754 aircraft that were being employed in their practice and maneuvers.

As a result of the Army Reorganization Act of 1920, the Air Service was declared an individual combat unit of the Army. Soon after in 1926, the units name was changed to the Air Corps. Even though the U.S. had sent fighter pilots to be utilized by its allies in WWI, as of 1935 the Air Corps was still a relatively small force.

World War II and the Air Force

World War II began in 1939 when Hitler began his assault against Poland. The Air Corps had methodically been increasing their numbers. When the attack on Pearl Harbor occurred and the U.S. was forced to enter the war, the Air corps began playing a pivotal role in transport, pursuit, attack, and reconnaissance missions. The U.S. aviation industry began to boom and soon the early warplanes like the C-47 Sky train, the P-51 Mustang, and the B-17 flying Fortress came to life. Soon the Air Corps had over 80,000 aircraft in its control and over 2.4 million enlisted men. The Air Corps soon began to dominate the skies in WW II and sealed the victorious ending of the war in 1945, when the Atomic Bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In 1947, Congress made the Air Force its on separate branch freeing it from Army control.

Air Force Space Surveillance Satellite Launch Delayed

A launch of an Air Force space survelliance satellite has been delayed due to a software problem. The Space-based Space Surveillance satellite was supposed to launch Thursday from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

The SBSS was set to monitor satellities and debris in space that could crash into Earth. The satellite is the first for the U.S. Air Force and would survey the assets circling earth on a 24/7 basis.

At present, the Air Force monitors about 1,000 satellites and 20,000 pieces of debris from the ground, using radar and optical telescopes. However, this technology is not ideal as it does not capture satellites in deep space nor are telescopes as effective on cloudy nights.

Ball Aerospace & Technology Corp. in Boulder, Colorado worked with Boeing to create the SBSS. The satellite features an optical camera on a swivel mount which will save fuel by decreasing the need to move the satellite.

Total project cost for SBSS is $500 million. Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado will command the SBSS.

SBSS will make spot checks to prevent collisions between space debris and satellities and other spacecraft. The Air Force monitors items that are at least 4 inches across because these can cause damage.

The Air Force delayed the launch because it found a software error on another spacecraft, the Minotaur IV rocket.

Space collisions have occurred in the past, including a French satellite in 1996 and a rocket fragment, an Iridium Communications satellite in 2009 with a Russian satellite, and a Chinese satellite with one if its missiles on purpose.

U.S. President Barack Obama recently released a National Space Policy which agreed the U.S. would cooperate with other countries on keeping space clean and safe and avoiding space junk.

The SBSS, besides being the first Air Force satellite, is also the first satellite dedicated specifically to monitoring space for debris and preventing collision.

Expected postponement date is unknown. The Air Force must first determine if the software glitch applies to the SBSS as well as the Minotaur IV.

Gas Prices in the Air

Image via Wikipedia

If you think that you have it bad on account of gas prices, just imagine that you had to fill up tens of thousands of helicopters, transport planes and fighter jets on a daily basis. The United States military (and the Air Force in particular) have long since discovered that aircraft simply can not be run on fresh air and good intentions alone. Therefore, they need fuel, and they need an awful lot of it, just to keep up in the sky. This does not even take into account how much fuel they end up needing when they fly a lot of difficult missions, either to save lives or to take lives (which hopefully serves the purpose of saving more lives, at least in theory).

Simply put, one of the reasons why our national defense budget is so insane is because we have a lot of equipment that needs to be fueled up. As nice as it would be to have a solar powered Humvee, that wonderful dream simply has not materialized as of this moment. And if you think that a piece of ground based equipment is going to go through a lot of gas (which they do), just imagine that every moment spent operating took up fuel whether you were actually accomplishing anything or not. In the case of our Air Force, this is an unfortunate reality.

Now, nobody ever said that tanks get good gas mileage. With all of that armor, they get far less than a mile to the gallon. But when you think about it, a tank can always just sit there, spin its turret and defend itself from whomever might happen to come along talking trash. A helicopter, on the other hand, is at a distinct disadvantage if it should ever stop moving. So it pretty much has to either stay in the air and burn up fuel, or fall back to land somewhere safe. That’s an expensive choice.
