Whether you are considering going into the Air Force or just want a routine that will challenge you, it is a good idea to look into the workouts used by those in the Air Force. You will probably find that the results are more impressive than what you will get from the gym, as is the feeling of achievement when you finish the routine. Though joining the Air Force is the best way to get the training, there are other sources available.

You can find schools and companies near you that offer training routines when you check out Canada 411 or similar local search engines. This is usually the fastest way to find a range of places offering Air Force training, allowing you to quickly choose a location and get started getting in shape. You can also expect to learn discipline, teamwork and confidence when you choose an Air Force routine. While it will not be easy to complete the training, the outcome is usually worth it, especially since you should be left with both more muscle tone and the knowledge that you can complete any challenges you put your mind to.

Most Air Force training courses cost money, but you can usually get a few tips regarding the routine from fitness magazines and websites. Of course, you will not get the same challenge as if you were to take a course, but if you are already disciplined, you may benefit from learning some of the requirements of the training and then adding them into your own routine.

Lower Oil Prices To Benefit All

With the opening up of the global economy, and increased trade across all regions, many countries have benefited from the lowering of trade barriers. This benefit has another adverse picture as the other side of the coin. It is widely observed that any adverse impact in any major economy is likely to have a ripple effect, and most other economies of the world will feel the adverse impact in the short- to medium-term.

Among the major examples is the impact of the consistently high prices of crude oil. This aspect has affected all countries of the world, even though their consumption of crude oil may be quite insignificant as compared to the consumption in a few major economies. The excessive consumption in these major economies has pushed up the prices of crude oil. Continuously high consumption, with no signs of reduction in consumption, has resulted in oil prices remaining consistently high and always in an upward price spiral.

Since the pricing mechanism is uniformly applied to all other countries, the outcome is that all countries have to procure their crude oil at the prevailing high rates.

Since crude oil is the input from which other fuels are produced, the prices of all other fuels also rise. These fuels are used as input in all industries, including the generation of electricity, as well as fuel for the transportation sector including road, rail and air.

Higher fuel prices in turn increase the production costs of all industries. All such industries then increase the prices of their final product in order to stay profitable. This is where the trouble starts for those countries where the masses have insignificant purchasing capacity. Their struggle for survival increases with extreme hardships as even the food becomes unaffordable. Society suffers at a broad level, since this increases levels of crime and other undesirable activities.

Lower crude oil prices shall certainly benefit the masses, which would in turn benefit all countries in the world. An important method to reduce oil prices could be by reducing consumption, which will reduce the pressure for oil.

Communication is the key to Healthy Relationships

As the new year approaches, many people have already begun making plans to lose weight, eat healthier, or try to climb out of debt. As 2011 approaches, how about examining the relationships we have and making a resolution to make those connections better?

Relationships are like a prepaid credit card. If you don’t put anything into them, chances are you aren’t going to get much out on the other side.

Some people are lucky enough to have everything in common, and their relationships flow like water down a river. The communication comes easy and these best friends always check in with each other. For some of us though, relationships take more work, and there is no substitute for hard work.

After you’ve been with someone for more than a decade, you’ve probably asked them about their day 3 million times. You’ve had the same stagnant conversations for a decade and each day closes with a normalcy that is comforting, yet all too familiar.

Make 2011 the year that you bring romance back into the equation. When your partner comes home from work, try doing something different. Different could be have the radio on instead of the television. Different could be you dressed in nothing but an apron. Different could be changing clothes and whisking you away for a weekend away from normalcy.

If you’ve lost that zestful urge to communicate freely, it’s time to get back to it. Couples don’t experience true intimacy unless they are connected. Connections aren’t saying “Honey can you pass the potatoes?”. Connections are talking openly and freely about how you feel and where you are in life.

If you want a little spice in your life and to rekindle that relationship whose communication issues are flickering, take time to get back to the place that brought you together in the first place.

My Most Enjoyable Outdoor Activities

Walking from Benaojan to Cortes, Andalusia (Spain)
Image via Wikipedia

Even though it doesn’t seem like I am an outdoor type of person, there are a few things I enjoy. Once in a while I find it refreshing and relaxing to get away from home and out of the city. It is amazing how active you can be in the woods or how much fun you can have on a farm. I try to plan something at least once a year that will encourage me to take a weekend trip and enjoy the beauty of nature. Here are a few things I enjoy and enhance my experience.

* Go hiking at least once a year and see new sites. The clean air is good for health and the scenery is pleasing to the eyes. When hiking you can either go on trails and discover areas you have missed on your previous trips or walk around and look at the different types of greenery out there.
* Cycling is another activity I enjoy quite a lot. It brings about a sense of freedom that comes with the open area and the empty roads. My current bike is not as reliable so I think it is time to go into a triathlon store and find something more suitable for long distance biking.
* Boating is another activity that is fun whether you decide to go alone or with friends. A day on the water has so many advantages and you only need to plan a little to take advantage of the activity.

These are just some of the activities I enjoy, but if you are looking for alternatives, there are several options available and some are most likely closer than you would think. We all need a little time away from home to enjoy something that will rejuvenate us and what better way to do it than being outside.

How to Choose a Playground for Your Kids

Playground equipment at the Gordon Faber Recre...
Image via Wikipedia

When it comes to choosing a playground, we have lots of options in our city. I suppose we could spend a lot of money on our own swing set in the backyard, but it makes much more sense for us right now to use public parks. Besides, public playgrounds are a good way to meet other parents in your community. Your kids will also have the chance to make new friends. You just have to make sure that you choose a safe location that your kids will enjoy.

Rule number one should be to choose a playground that doesn’t attract a bad element. You wouldn’t want your children playing in a park littered with beer cans and cigarette butts. We live in a pretty quiet neighborhood, so it is easy for us to find a nice playground. If the park in your area doesn’t offer the same level of safety, though, then you might want to consider hopping in the car and visiting another one.

You will also need to make sure that the playground equipment is safe. These days, most park systems cover their playground equipment in soft foam materials that prevent children from getting hurt. The playground should also sit on a soft material, not concrete or asphalt. That way your kids are safe when they fall down.

Some of the activities that my kids enjoy I like about as much as paying income tax. Going to the park, though, is a lot of fun as long as you choose the right one. You will know the right park when you find it. You feel relaxed there. You feel safe talking to other people and you don’t constantly fret that your kids will get hurt. Once you have found the right place, start to settle in, make friends and become a regular.

Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell . . . For How Much Longer?

Democrats have been struggling to overturn the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” ban on allowing gays to openly serve in the armed forces, but they continue to butt against fierce opposition from the Republicans. However, a recently conducted study shows that while overturning this ban might cause some initial disruption, it would not create long-lasting or widespread problems.

This study was based on a survey of more than 115,000 troops and more than 44,200 military spouses, conducted by an independent polling company. The results revealed that two-thirds of the surveyed troops didn’t object to having openly gays serve, while the remaining 30 percent who objected were primarily combat troops.

The survey also reveals that 69 percent of those questioned believe to have already served alongside somebody who was gay, and 92 percent said that their units operated just fine with a gay person in the unit. Interestingly, the survey revealed that the majority of gay troops would choose to keep their sexual orientation unknown, even if the ban were to be lifted. Only 15 percent of those who stated that they were gay would reveal their sexuality to their unit.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates asks that congress moves quickly in opposition to a federal judge who is using this new study to try to overturn the law. Gates cautions that more time is needed to prepare and that a sudden mandate issued by the courts would only cause chaos and turmoil and would increase any risks of disruption.

Unlike a Mikimoto pearl, nothing is of yet set in stone. This study is giving Democrats additional fuel as they are hoping to have this ban overturned by the end of the year despite what could cause a logistical nightmare in order to accommodate homosexuals in the armed forces.

Getting Renters Insurance When You’re in the Military

Image by Beverly & Pack via Flickr

If you’re in the military, you know you could be shipped somewhere else without much notice, asked to put your life on the line for people you don’t know, and almost anything else you can think of. You knew that when you signed up, and it might have even been just what you wanted. No matter what your reasons for getting involved in the military, there are both perks and problems for people who are on active duty. One of those problems is trying to keep some sense of normalcy at home. It can be hard to be away from family and friends.

When you get out of the military, it can also be hard to adjust to civilian life and do all of the things you need to get things back to ‘normal’ life. You won’t have a job, so it can be difficult to get an apartment, renters insurance, and other things. Many people really appreciate the job that the military does, though, so if you have some savings you should be able to get a place to stay. Make sure you network with others and look for places that are military-friendly. Not every place is.

Even though people aren’t supposed to discriminate with things like rental housing, they still find ways to do it. Don’t give up on getting what you need as you transition to civilian life. There are people and organizations that will help you if you need it. It’s to your advantage to use any outreach that the military offers, so things will be easier for you. In addition, save all the money you can while you’re enlisted, so you’ll have a nest age when you get out. That’s especially true in a tough economy, but valuable advice no matter what the financial climate is like.

Preparing for the SATs to Get into the Air Force Academy

Image via Wikipedia

Are you a high school student who is considering entering the United States Air Force Academy?

Many students believe that by entering the armed forces it is a way to get away from schooling or it is an easier alternative to the local colleges. However that isn’t the case. The United States Air Force Academy has some of the strictest and most selective admissions process around. In fact, they are probably more selective then any of the Ivy League schools around.

If you are considering entering the United States Air Force Academy then you will need to take at least the ACT and SAT courses and achieve decent scores on both tests. The lowest acceptable score to get into the United States Air Force Academy is an SAT score of 580 in reading, 600 in math and 550 in writing.

Prep courses are available for any student that is looking to study for the SAT or PSAT program. In fact there are prep courses for almost any type of test, with the LSAT prep courses and GMAT prep courses but those will come later after college.

SAT and PSAT prep courses allow students to prepare for the tests that will determine their college entrance. These tests can be highly stressful and through the use of prep courses the stress that comes with these tests can be eased a little bit. In fact, a study showed that students who use a prep course actually score higher on the tests then those that didn’t.

Prep courses teach students how to deal with stress that comes with exams as well as what to expect on these tests. Most of the stress that comes from exams comes from not knowing what is on the test. By having an idea of the format of the questions, what style the questions are asked in and any other aspect of the test students can sit back and take the test with ease.

The Air Force Outreach Program Recognizes Scouts

As part of the Air Force Outreach Program, the United States Air Force presents Certificates of Recognition to both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to celebrate their accomplishments. Boy Scouts must have reached Eagle Scout status, while Girl Scout must have reached the Gold Award level. The Air Force Certificate of Recognition is awarded to recognize each scout’s leadership and organizational skills as well as their involvement in the community.

Either parents or scout leaders can submit an electronic application to nominate their scout for the Air Force Certificate of Recognition. The application can be found on the Air Force Outreach website. In addition to the certificate, each Eagle Scout or Gold Award Girl Scout can also receive a congratulatory letter from the Air Force Outreach Program. The letter will be signed by the Secretary and Chief of Staff of the Air Force. It will recognize each recipient for their outstanding achievement and hard work.

The letter and certificate can be mailed to either the Boy Scout or Girl Scout themselves, but a better idea would be to mail it to the Scout Leader. With the latter option, the Scout Leader can officially recognize the achievement by presenting the letter and certificate in front of the entire troop. Not only will it be an honor to the scout receiving the award, but it will also motivate the lower level scouts to excel at their own goals.

In addition to the immediate honor of receiving the Air Force Certificate of Recognition and the congratulatory letter, the awards are suitable for framing for everyone to view. They can also be listed on college applications and job resumes in the future. This is a valuable award that will reflect the scout’s responsible behavior and commitment to the community and to the scouting organization.

The Air Force Outreach Program is operated by the United States Air Force to educate the community and foster goodwill with the public. In addition to special awards, this group also provides speakers, educational material, movies, and flyovers for various types of occasions from community meetings to sporting events.
