Pilot Aptitude Battery Test

The pilot aptitude battery test (PABT) is a series of tests aimed at checking a person’s ability to become an air-force pilot. It is conducted by the Indian Air Force. PABT is probably the only selection and assessment mechanism to check the aptitude of pilot’s for a career in the skies.

A pilot’s career is not easy. At every stage of a pilot’s career, there are serious risks involved. A pilot carries the lives of people in their hands. It is certainly one of the bravest jobs in the world.

Three tests comprise the PABT. Instrument Battery Test (INSB), Sensory Motor Apparatus Test (SMA) and Control Velocity Test (CVT).

Instrument Battery Test consists of three tests. One is a written test, and other two are practical tests. Comprising of two parts, INSB assesses a pilot’s ability to judge signals displayed on the instrument panel of an aircraft.

Candidates need to score minimum marks in INSB. Cleared candidates go on to do the machine tests. The machine tests are Sensory Motor Apparatus Test (SMA) and Control Velocity Test (CVT). These tests check the level of alertness in the candidate. The candidate should be able to respond to situations with firm and correct decisions.

Military Uniform Styles

The military uniform is a concept taken from weaponry and tactics introduced into the European armies in the seventeenth century. Uniforms became a vital part thereafter, with soldiers being made recognizable in the smoke filled and crowded battle fields. Also, military uniforms are said to impose discipline and shape habits and actions on the job. Uniforms embody the organizational hierarchy within the military as well. Styles of uniform didn’t change until the mid- twentieth century. Military clothing expanded to a more modern and less isolated style, often indistinguishable from the casual dress of the civilian.

Between 1776 and the nineteenth century, the standard military uniforms in America followed the European uniform style. The tradition set by the British navy which wore the blue apparel in winter and white apparel in summer followed suit in America. In the early nineteenth century, the Napoleonic style of tight trousers, outsized headwear and colorful tight fitting jacket swept the military uniform style in Europe. This influence although subdued in America is evident during the half century, which followed thereafter. In 1830, the French colonial soldiers adopted a popular military clothing style with a cropped jacket and balloon trousers. This style quickly spread around the world.

People, especially the youth, often have a very one sided view of the Air Force. The Air Force isn’t all about flying cool fighter jets, wearing Ray Ban Aviators or sporting leather jackets. Being an Air Force pilot is serious business. It takes a lot of dedication and hard work to get through the rigorous training to get a shot at being a pilot. Not everyone can make it through the strict selection procedure! Here are some tips on how you can make it through the painstaking training to become a proud Air Force Pilot:

 

  1. Don’t Talk Too Much: While it may seem ‘cool’ to behave like Tom Cruise in Top Gun, being outspoken isn’t the best idea when you are undergoing Air Force training. So listen more, talk less, and you will most likely stay out of trouble.
  2. Do exactly What You Are Told: You should forget about taking short cuts or doing things the easy way when you in training. Being an Air Force pilot is all about discipline. So if you are told to perform a certain task in a particular manner, you need to follow the orders to the dot!
  3. Get Set To Be Tough: Pilots need to be in top physical shape and so you will be going through a very tough fitness regime where you will need to push your body to its limits and beyond. Remember, giving up is never an option so tough up!
  4. Get Ready to Change: By the time you are done with the training, you will barely be the person you once were so be prepared for the change.

Don’t be fooled by the word ‘basic’ in Basic Air Force Training because there is nothing basic about it! Air Force training is tough and needs you to give it your all if you are ever going to get through. Needless to say, joining the Air Force isn’t meant for anyone and everyone and whoever attempts to get in, has to be prepared for the toughest challenges ahead. Here are a few things that will help you make it!

 

  1. Air Force training is not just given in the field. Believe it or not, you will be spending tremendous amounts of time in a classroom! So be prepared to take lots of notes and study hard as this is crucial if you are going to get through.
  2. Be proud of what you are doing! You will often be told that you are not good enough but that is just your instructor’s way of pushing you harder. Most men who think they are tough crumble during the training so you should be proud of your efforts. It will keep you motivated!
  3. Take practice sessions seriously. You will be asked to role play in situations that may actually happen someday so treat it as something that is happening in real, you will be able to give it your best then.
  4. You will feel like giving several times during the training period. However, you should keep reminding yourself that getting through this eight and a half month training will change your life forever, and for the better too! So stick to it and you won’t regret making the decision when you earn your Airman’s Coin!

Heading off for the Air Force Training Basics can be a turning point in a person’s life. You know that things will never be the same once you have earned your Airman’s Coin and can proudly proclaim that you are a member of the USAF. You might have even mentally prepared yourself for the hardships you will face during the training and have formed strategies to keep yourself motivated. However, there are certain small, basic things that will make things a tad bit easier for you at camp. Here are some such tips!

 

  1. Cleanliness is a virtue that is taken very seriously at the Air Force. So learn how to shine your own boots and stay prim all the time.
  2. You will be marching – a lot! So learn and practice the basics of marching before hand to save yourself from unnecessary embarrassment!
  3. You should know whose orders matter the most, so learn the ranks of the military and air force. It will also help if you know how to address people at different rank levels.
  4. You will be strapped for time and can expect to have a very hectic schedule that needs to be adhered to strictly. Being late is never an option. So learn how to do things really fast, like finish a meal or have a shower in 3 minutes!
  5. Forget about getting any semblance of ample sleep. You will be waking very early and will have little time to sleep, so get used to it!
  6. Learn how to control your temper and watch what you say. Making enemies at camp is always a bad idea!

Types Of Armed Forces

Every country has armed forces which help to defend the country against external threats that arises now and then in the form of war or trying to get into an area of the country forbidden to external people or foreigners. The armed forces are trained extensively to defend the nation and to keep the people in the country safe and secure.

The armed forces are mainly of three types, namely the army, navy and air force. Each operates on separate topographies and is trained to defend from different angles. The army consists of the group of people who defend the country from land. These people are trained vigorously to defend the country from external aggressors. The air force is other armed forces which defends the country from the air. These are the people who risk their lives in the air to defend their country from any threat that arises. The objective of the air force, from a defensive point of view is to conduct aerial warfare when the need arises. It is a form of advanced way to defending the country.

The navy is a force which defends the country through the water bodies. These people are also involved in trade and foreign relations. They are extensively trained to be skilled and efficient when the need arises. The navy is usually forgotten by people as a part of the armed forces but the fact is they are quite important.

There are many people who think that armed forces mean a group of people who are armed. It is a way of putting it but there is something else which defines an armed force. An armed force is an organization sponsored by the government of a country to defend it. Though defense is the main objective, there are also others like furthering the domestic and foreign policies.
When you think of armed forces you would probably have an image of many people with their soldier uniform. This is not far from the realty and armed forces does mean that there is a group of people with a specific uniform and dress code to represent what they stand for, and do the work which trains them to defend their country should the need arise.

The armed forces of a country can be of three types. You have the army, the most commonly known by the people. The army is a group of people who are trained to defend the country from the ground. They have camps and places where they may be trained to use various machines or defense gadgets when their country is attacked or under threat.

The Navy is a set of people ho are trained to defend the country from the waters. The navy is related to ships and marine technologies where they are trained in various techniques and skills involving the defense mechanisms from the water. You can relate them to submarines and under water defenses, etc. They are trained in these places too.

The air force is a group of people who defend the country from the air. The air forces have a lot of training in the air force area where they would have to get to know the various technologies involved in the ;planes. This is the group of people who fly killer planes and so on that you would have only seen in movies or in newspapers.

Armed forces are the pillars of every nation and that is the reason why so much of importance is given to them.

Patriotism And Commitment

There may be many people who would boast to you about the commitment and loyalty they have to their country. But what exactly would patriotism be defined as? Is it something which would mean that you have to defend your country by joining the defense forces? Does it mean you don’t speak ill of it? Or does it simply mean that you love your country?

The word patriotism is something which is broader than joining an armed force or not speaking ill of it. When you say that a person is patriotic, it can mean that he loves his country a lot and can never be disloyal to it. It means that the person concerned has a lot of dedication for his country and that he can be a trusty candidate to defend the name of the country, which may either be action or words.

Most people link patriotism with defense forces. People think that if a person can put his life in danger for the sake of the country, then he is someone who has to be very patriotic. Most think that the ones in the defense forces have proved their loyalty to their country because they have joined it and are constantly putting their lives in danger despite having families who pine for them.

Joining a defense force is definitely a way of dictating your patriotism to people, or it may be a way to prove to yourself that you love your country. But is that the only thing? Doesn’t a country need to have good relations with other nations so that it is unthreatened? This can only be achieved with the people of various countries linking with each other.

Business is something which can be quite strongly linked with patriotism. Patriotism can also come under you telling other people about the magnificence of your country. Just because someone is not willing to give up his life for the country does not mean he is not patriotic, though doing that is one of the best way to convey the message that you hold nothing above your country.
